State Senator Cristina Castro (D-Elgin) issued the following statement Wednesday regarding Governor JB Pritzker’s proposed budget:

“I was glad to hear the governor talk about serious investments in higher education — not just for four-year students, but for community college students, first-generation students and working students. These investments are important for the next generation, for our workforce and for making Illinois the best place to raise a family and build a career.

“The governor’s budget proposes building on the progress we’ve made for working families through homeowner assistance, workforce training, economic development, job creation and more. We’re able to invest in Illinois families because of our responsible budgeting over the last several years. I’m pleased this proposal continues that legacy and prioritizes fiscal stability.

“The people of Illinois are counting on us to do the right thing and pass a compassionate, responsible budget that invests in all communities. Over the next few months, I will work with my colleagues to craft a state budget that fulfills this responsibility.”
